Living on the Internet + Opening my Calendar 👩🏾💻
It’s been a little while, brave ones. I am still alive: both as a physical and digital being. Now that I am back, I am open to video calls with folks! You can feel free to book in my calendar if you want to experience this brave new world together. Especially if you have questions about a UX career or my personal experience. You can also share your questions on UX here.
What have I been up to?
A lot of things, my friends. A lot of things. As well as nothing at all. Our last virtual UX Sauna Session on mental health was in March 2020. It marked the very start of the pandemic in Canada. Then, we presented a couple of designer workspaces in Toronto and Montreal. Feel free to go back to those last posts when you have time.
2020 was disorienting for many, including myself. I went through a quarter-life crisis. Thankfully, I came out alive, so today, I want to highlight a couple of milestones. What happened to me (and UX Sauna) in 2020 and what am I up to?
UX Sauna got featured! Canadian Art’s Amelia Wong-Mersereau wrote a piece on how designers and artists creatively shift to online spaces in the pandemic.
I spent the rest of 2020 working as a UX researcher for the Canadian Digital Service (CDS). You can read a blogpost on Inclusion in government.
I joined the Board of directors of Computers for Success Canada (CFSC), a non-profit organization that empowers millions of Canadians with its digital inclusion mission since 1993.
I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic and Industrial Design! ✅
I continue to facilitate UX workshops for undergraduate and graduate students at Concordia University. I have a five sessions from February to June, but feel free to reach out if you want me to facilitate an event.
I left CDS at the end of December to work as a user experience consultant full-time. I will continue to build for impact. Some exciting things are to come, so stay tuned ✨ .
I want to hear from you 🙌🏾 ✨
What did you learn in 2020? What are your 2021 UX career objectives? If you want to talk through these questions, I am all ears. An email works too.
What do you want to know about UX? 📖
I am here to support you in your UX career. What could help me better understand your needs is to learn from you. I opened this space for you to share if you can. This information can lead to a future UX Sauna Session or a 1:1 with you.
Who am I? 🤔
Hello! It might be the first time we meet. If it is, hopefully, it is not the last time ✨. My name is Anne-Marie Mulumba (AM). I am a designer, researcher and host of UX Sauna Sessions, a cozy user experience community. I am a bilingual user experience research consultant. I help innovative companies make their digital experiences more intuitive, inclusive and accessible. I write for the Black Professionals in Tech Network (BPTN) and live in Montreal, Canada. Welcome to the club.
Amazing! So, what’s next? 🥂
I will wait for your feedback. We will stay in touch right here, alright? If you know any UX enthusiasts, feel free to share this community with them. Cheers to a 2021 that will surprise us all (in a good way this time 😎).
