Our first sauna session happened!
How designers, programmers and interested friends joined a cozy community in MTL.
Hello, world!
My name is Anne-Marie and a few months ago, I wanted to build a new UX community. It happened in Montreal on December 4. Listen, this one is intriguing. It’s called UX Sauna Sessions. Learn more about it in a Q&A format below!
What does UX have to do with saunas?
Nothing and everything at the same time. Let me explain: just like public baths and saunas are gathering places for all in Helsinki, Finland, this new community is a space where you can get refreshing perspectives on UX with a small group of people.
What makes Sauna Sessions different?
This is our mission statement: we want to create ephemeral, cozy gatherings between fellow humans to help navigate an ambiguous career path in UX design and research through exchanges that reconnect, rejuvenate and grow Self with the help of others. UX Sauna Sessions focus on creating a space for smaller groups to come together and discuss topics in depth, those topics are chosen by you.
Then, we want to foster an environment where you connect on a deeper level. You can access a database of skills your fellow community members have. More info on this soon. This is a great way to create opportunities for you: future collaborations, a job offer, generation of multidisciplinary ideas or just a coffee chat with an interesting human.
Did you go to a real sauna?
The straight answer is no. The better answer is, we wished. It would be great to be sponsored by a spa (almost a joke), but more to come on this! Reach out if you are one!
When is the next one, and where?
The first Sauna Session on December 4 2019, was our pilot. The second one is in January 2020. We will announce the main topic of discussion soon. We are planning to gather together every month or so. It will be in Montreal once again but stay tuned for the specific location.
PERKS
A chance to dive deep into a subject and share your ideas with a small group of people.
Learn from UX professionals you admire, who have unconventionally reached their goals. Our first guest speaker Mackenzie Derival is a self-taught designer. He built the startup Node and interned at Google in summer 2019. Maybe it could be you one day.
Meet, connect and collaborate with people who share your love for user experience and possess diverse skills.
A customized sticker for every Sauna Session, cute enough to make you lose your mind. Check out the first one :)
